Historical Notes: cultivated most widely in the regions of Campania and Basilicata, but also in Puglia and Molise. Originating in Magna Grecia from very ancient times, this grape variety owes its name to the vulgarization of the term Ellenikon in Hellenic Greek, evolving from Hellanico to its present name, Aglianico.

Characteristics: medium -sized leaves, with five lobes and smooth upper surface, opaque, and deep green in color. Medium-sized clusters, fairly compact, not always winged, cylindrical or conical. Spheroid berries with a resistant skin, intense blue in color with a rich bloom.

Vigor: good.

Productiveness: rather abundant.

Maturation: late, from October 15 to November 10.

ALBANA

ALBANA

Synonyms: Albana della Forcella Albana del Riminese, Greco, Greco di Ancona -Twenty different clones have been identified of which five of which have obtained official recognition: Albana Gentile di Bertinoro, Albana della Serra , Albana della Compadrona , Albana della Bagarona and Albana della Gaiana .

Historical Notes: the origins of this variety are so ancient that it is difficult to make out what is legend and what is history. The first documented accounts date back to 1200: it was cited by Pier de Crescenzi in 1303, and its merits were praised by Tanara in 1654. Tanara already began to classify this grape variety into its different types. It is cultivated quite widely in the region of Romagna: attempts at growing elsewhere on the Italian peninsula have never produced satisfactory results.

Characteristics: large leaf, the form cut by sinuses leaving three to five long lobes. The leaf is dark green with a crimped upper surface. The clusters are large of varying lengths, generally cylindrical, but also conical or cylindrical-conical, compact, of average density, simple or with side shoulders. The berries are medium-sized, and have a thick but not very resistant skin, greenish-yellow in color, tending towards amber.

Vigor: considerable .

Productiveness: good, constant.

Maturation: last ten days of September.

Historical Notes: grape variety already cited by Pier De' Crescenzi (1303). There has been some disagreement as concerns its origins: there are those who believe it originates from Greece, and those who consider it most likely a Tuscan variety, probably obtained through a dark-berried mutation of the black muscat.

Characteristics: large pentagonal and orbicular leaf, tri-lobed, smooth, dark green face. Small, elongated loose cluster, with a single shoulder. Medium-sized, discoid berry, very irregular in shape, transparent, blue vermilion skin, with a heavy bloom.

Vigor: medium to good.

Productiveness: average and constant.

Maturation: the last ten days of September.

Lambrusco family, but is considered to be of higher quality.

Characteristics: medium-sized leaf, five-lobed, opaque, light-green face.
Pyramidal, medium-sized clusters, winged, usually loosely put together.
Small spheroid berries with a thick and resistant, black-blue skin, with a
heavy bloom
