Historical Notes: it would appear that this grape variety originated in the Castelli Romani area. It is certainly part or the great Trebbiano family, whose name according to some experts, derived from the Latin word "Trebulanum", a wine which Pliny cites in his "Naturalis Historia". According to others, the name comes from the Trebbia River, in the province of Piacenza, or even from other places which bear the name of Trebbiano.

TREBBIANO ROMAGNOLO

TREBBIANO ROMAGNOLO

Synonyms: Trebbiano della Fiamma, Trebbiano di Romagna.
Historical Notes: it is a grape variety of ancient origins, already noted and grown in Romagna, in the time of the ancient Romans and cited by Pliny in his "Naturalis Historia" with the name of "Trebulanum". Trebbiano Romagnolo is the most widely grown grape variety in in Emilia-Romagna and is most commonly grown in the Province of Ravenna. The grape variety has through the centuries, always been the object of numerous studies. During the last few years the use of clone selections have brought about the homologation of three different sub-species.

Characteristics: medium-sized leaf, pentagonally shaped, with the upper surface marked by veins, of an opaque, dark green color. The clusters are medium-large, assuming the conic-pyramid like shape, either compact or semi-loose, with shoulder or side bunches. Medium-sized berries, spherical, with a robust skin. TREBBIANO TOSCANO

TREBBIANO TOSCANO

Synonyms: Castelli Romani, Bobiano, Procanico, Santoro, Albano, Saint-Emilion, Ugni Blanc, Roussan.
Historical Notes: the grape variety is of Etruscan origin. Trebbiano Toscano, perhaps the most important of the many "Trebbiani", already cited Pliny the Elder, as "Trebulanum", perhaps owes its name to the site of the same name of ancient Etruria, near Luni, at the border between Liguria and Tuscany or the Trebbia River of the Piacentini Hills. This is among the most widely grown grape varieties at the national level even if it finds chiefly grown in Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria

Characteristics: medium-large leaf, pentagonal, with five leaves, hairless, upper surface, of an opaque, green color. Large clusters, (7-10 inches) (18-25 cm.) long, semi-compact, with side bunches. Medium-sized berries, discoid, of a rather regular shape; of average resistance to breakage, of a greenish yellow or pinkish yellow in color, according to the clones, with a more or less heavy bloom.

Vigor: considerable.

Productiveness: very prolific and consistent.

Maturation: first three weeks of October.
