Burgundy vine growers at the beginning of the century agreed to recognize the vine variety as Chardonnay. In Italy is was enrolled as such in the Catasto Nazionale (Register of Italian Vine Varieties) with the Ministerial Decree (D.M.) of 24/10/1978. It is widely grown in the Champagne region, in Burgundy, in all of northern Italy and now, it can be said also in central and southern Italy. It is considered as the international grape and is one of the most popular varieties in the world.

ERBALUCE

ERBALUCE

Synonyms: Albaluce, Erbalus, Bianc Roustì, Uva Rustia Bianchera. Its definitions all derive from "albe lucent" (Bright Dawn), are due to the fact that the grape in winter, takes on the color of the sun with warm reflections, slightly pinkish that records the dawn.

Historical Notes: Erbaluce is certainly one of the most ancient Piedmont grape varieties and while it has been the topic of many ampleographic studies, no one has given opted to declare themselves as to its origins. It is generally held however that it comes from the pre-Alp valleys north of Turin, where the environment is fairly damp. Curiously the quality of this grape variety was praised in a light Opera by G.B. Croce, which was performed in Turin in 1606.

Characteristics: average-sized leaf, with five lobes, the upper surface is hairless light green. The cluster is of average length with a prolonged cone sometimes with shoulders or side bunches, of average compactness. The berries are spherical, medium-sized and have a transparent amber-yellow colored skin, with a rich bloom.
